Community Innovation Lab is launching a new and exciting entrepreneurship launchpad this fall for people 55+, with an interest in exploring entrepreneurship. The Seniors Project for Creativity and Entrepreneurship (SP4CE), is specific to the growing population of 55+ who are experiencing early retirement and ageist employment challenges and are interested in seeking out fresh opportunities to explore or launch start-ups as a next career option.

Scaling Social Enterprise

Thinking about expanding into new markets?
Eager to deepen your impact in an existing community?

Scaling Social Enterprise is a program of Pillar Nonprofit Network focused on scaling the impact and revenue of established social enterprises.  Join us for two months of small group workshops with experts, 1-1 business mentorship and access to a wide range of learning tools.  

This program is capped at 15 organizations, and we guarantee you individualized support to create YOUR roadmap for scale.

What is included?

  • Kick-off & closing event to get to know your fellow social enterprises & mentors
  • 4 half-day workshops focused on growing your social enterprise
  • 1-1 support from a business mentor in our community
  • 4 additional half-day work periods with Pillar staff & your mentor

What will you walk away with?

  • Framework: Tools & exercises to analyze current situation and plan for growth
  • Skills: Ability to analyze future opportunities and act on them
  • Leadership: Strategies to bring staff and board “on board” with growth vision
  • Community: Ongoing access to an online & in-person community of peers

Who are we looking for?

Scaling Social Enterprises is open to nonprofits, for-profits & cooperatives. This program is designed to support social enterprises that can demonstrate:

  • A product or service with a proven business model
  • Revenue generation over at least 1-2 years
  • Willingness to explore opportunities for growth

Bursaries are available to assist organizations in covering the cost of this program.

Meet with Michelle Baldwin, Executive Director of Pillar Nonprofit Network and other staff at Innovation Works for a one-hour group discussion. We will explore skills, networking opportunities, individual social responsibility, the hidden job market and tips for finding your dream job or the perfect volunteer role with a nonprofit or social enterprise.

About the Presenter:

As Executive Director of Pillar Nonprofit Network, Michelle Baldwin is a strong community advocate with extensive experience in volunteer management, communications, training and fundraising. Michelle previously held positions with the Brain Tumour Foundation and Thames Valley Children’s Centre. She currently serves on the Boards of Huron University College and Emerging Leaders, and facilitates a variety of nonprofit related workshops.

Michelle holds a Masters degree in Educational Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, as well as a Communications & Public Relations Professional Certificate from Western and a Volunteer Management Certificate from Fanshawe College.

During this free 2-hour interactive session, we will:

1) Set the Context

  • The demographics of Huron County
  • Community Economic Development needs identified

2) Discuss approaches to attract a diverse market segment:

  • Explore current marketing approaches and how they might be modified
  • Identify short and long term strategies
