Program Planning & Evaluation (distance ed.)

Core Course for the Red River College Volunteer Management Certificate - 10 hour credit*

Prerequisite: Volunteer Manitoba's "Volunteer Management Introduction" or Red River College's "Working with Volunteers" course

Building and maintaining a quality volunteer program takes careful planning and analysis. Participants in this course will gain the skills and resources to:

  • determine the most pressing needs of their clients
  • establish realistic goals and outcomes for their programs, and
  • evaluate their program's performance.

This course is currently being offered in a distance learning format for your convenience. You can start in January, April or October and will have 5 weeks to complete the readings and assignments. There will be 3 short assignments throughout the course and one larger, final assignment. The instructor will be available by phone and email to answer any questions and assist you through the materials.

Who should attend?

Volunteer Managers and all people responsible for supervising volunteers.

Creating Policy and Procedure Manuals

Readers frequently turn to policy and procedure documents to understand the internal processes of an organization. Yet those same readers are often frustrated by documents that are difficult to comprehend. Learn the fundamental tools for presenting a crystal clear message in a reader friendly format that will result in effective policy and procedure manuals.

Participants will have an opportunity to network with other executive directors, program managers, program administrators and anyone else attending.

Succession Planning Through Leadership Activities

Succession Planning or Continuity Management provides the board with effective methods of enlisting and retaining effective board members. The board must determine what skills and expertise it needs and how to recruit people with these skills. Learn how to involve executive members as a "Leadership Team" who provides professional development that encourages active involvement and retention of board members.

Content:

  1. Incorporating Succession Planning and Continuity Management,
  2. Contingency and Succession Planning for the Executive Director,
  3. Using By-Laws and Board Policy to maintain continuity,
  4. A new role for the "Nominating Committee",
  5. Recruitment through the use of "Ad-Hoc" committees,
  6. Making decisions on Board Representation,
  7. Engaging all Board Members through active involvement.

Certificates will be issued to individuals who complete all 4 workshops.
